Oh man I love trains. I take one everyday, but there is nothing like a day long train ride.

Very sad news, I am sure a lot of you who know who Ollie Johnston is, know that he passed away recently, and those who don't know who is probably don't know that he did. It's been quite an interesting time to be starting at the Disney studios, with the renaissance of 2d animation, the exchange of power Ed Catmul and John Lasseter walking through the halls, and now the last of the nine old men passing away. Glen Keane gave a great speech about Ollie and about a new time at the studio where it's heading, and about what the old greats would have wanted and what they thought we could do. I'm not really good at this sort of thing, or expressing it anyway but it was really a powerful moment for me.

On another note. I close my eyes and I see Timothy Spall. Shudder.

Here's a bit of art anyway. Seeing as how that's what this darned thing is for. It's kinda old, from this summer's trip to Ireland

Hello world. So I thought I would use the latest Disney press conference thingy to tell everyone what I have been up to lately and my view on things and blah blah blah

I have mostly been working on Rapunzel, which is being directed my Glen Keane and Dean Wellins, both awesomely cool guys who have been really supportive and patient with me as I learn how to like. . . draw and do stuff as a Vis Dev artist on a movie. I have recently been an apprentice under his daughter, Claire who has been great. I am now working under Mike Gabriel who co directed Rescuers Down Under and Pocohantas. Right now I am doing character designs and some location design on this movie.

I also did some stuff for King of the Elves, but haven't worked on that for a while. But who knows maybe I will get the chance to do some stuff for it again!

I am really excited at what's going on at the studio, I know a lot of rumours have been flying around about Bolt and Princess and the Frog, but I have to honestly say that for a while I wasn't so hot on the stuff I was seeing, but as things have been coming together, I am really excited for these movies and can't wait to watch them with my family and friends.

As for Kadie and Makani, I have my fingers crossed for you guys and I am really hoping to get to work with you soon.

since I can't post anything I am working on, and I don't have time to draw much outside of work, here's some life drawin.

Hey all.
Sorry for the long absence, work has started to pick up more so I haven't had that much time for much else. I am showing my stuff to the directors for the first time on Monday, so I'm kinda excited and kinda nervous. I met the two directors for the first time on Friday, they were really nice and very constructive. I finished my first sculpture! Too bad it's way to expensive for me to do anything with it at the moment. I would like to get a bronze of it someday though.
I have been using painter a lot more lately, and I really like it more than photoshop. I'll post my life drawing of a rock star sometime this week, as all my other work has been for . . . well. . . work.

Hi ev er ey ba dee

My first week was great. The first three days or so were pipeline classes and "Look at this shiny new software/technology!" classes, but things picked up from there pretty quick. The Disney design classes from Eric Goldberg were awesome, I felt as though some of the comments he made were "take THAT John K!" which was hillarious. It wasn't just design, it was about art direction and colour too which was cool. I really want to watch all of Lady and the Tramp now. It's so puuuurdy!

The story and vis dev people split up a bit more next week, we are getting some colour theory classes, which I am really excitied about. And we are going to the ARL for some classes! WOoo! I love how everyone here is really eager to help us out and teach us up good.

Anyway, that's all for now folks!

(p.s. I though about scanning my id badge. . . but then I realized it had ALL of my personal informaiton. hahaha. dur)

First day at the mouse house today! Things went really well. I didn't get my ID badge, that will be tomorrow morning but that's ok. I'll scan it once I do though ;)I got my official Disney name plaque thought which was pretty cool. And we got mickey ears with our names on them which was sweet. AND the vis dev people got the new Mary Blaire book too which was really nice of them.

We got the whole tour of the studio, my feet got so sore from standing all that time. We met the guy who animated Ursula, which was really neat. He said it was his favorite and I could totally believe it. We went all the way through vis dev to finishing digital touches. My brain was totally spinning by the end of it.

We got our schedules for the first week, we have a design class with Eric Goldberg which is exciting, and two life drawing classes, and a painting class. Yay! How much fun!

Well that is all for now, talk to you guys all soon!

Hello everyone! [Sep. 2nd, 2007|10:34 pm]

Hi gang!

This is my first post from sunny southern california. Just moved down yesterday, got in pretty late. Everything went real smooth, really small planes which was fun. Felt like I was on a bus trip more than anything. Pretty relaxing.
So I start work on tuesday, which will be nice. Once I get my relocation budget I will be singing! I found out that yes, Claire Keane IS going to be my mentor so I am totally thrilled about that. I think we are getting put on production in about a month actually, but we are still going to be getting classes and everything which is awesome.

Went for my first grociery store visit here, thankfully I can keep my Vancouver snobbery and walk everywhere from here, which is really nice. And a starbucks five minutes walk away, how crazy is that? Well, let me tell you it's more crazy around here than in Vancouver. I'm looking forward to getting to know the regulars. So, yeah. The grociery store. Pavillions? Wow! Never been in a place like that before. I thought Wild Oats was swanky. I guess it comes with the neighborhood (which, by the way, I love)

Best of all? There is a puppy at my feet. Yeah, that's right. Doggies. I am in heaven. Happy cut labs I get to play with all the time. And my landlady said I can come to the stabels with her and draw whenever I want YEAH BABY! I am all over that. I am going to sit and draw them today, totally.

Well, I think that is about it. I am going to post some pictures once I get my camera. So until then!

Hello LJ. Please forgive me, I have been neglecting you terribly. As an excuse I have gotten a temp job, which is taking up most of my day, and it's my last week in Canada so I am trying to get out as much as I can.

But I bring you and offering to beg for forgiveness!
